Alternative Names
Small ribosomal subunit protein bS16; 30S ribosomal protein S16; rpsP; SAUSA300_1131
Purity
> 95% as determined by SDS-PAGE
Format
Liquid or Lyophilized powder
Concentration
Batch dependent - please inquire should you have specific requirements.
Buffer
If the delivery form is liquid, the default storage buffer is Tris/PBS-based buffer, 5%-50% glycerol. If the delivery form is lyophilized powder, the buffer before lyophilization is Tris/PBS-based buffer, 6% Trehalose, pH 8.0.
Storage
Store at -20°C/-80°C upon receipt, aliquoting is necessary for mutiple use. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
The shelf life is related to many factors, storage state, buffer ingredients, storage temperature and the stability of the protein itself.
Generally, the shelf life of liquid form is 6 months at -20°C/-80°C. The shelf life of lyophilized form is 12 months at -20°C/-80°C.
Reconstitution
We recommend that this vial be briefly centrifuged prior to opening to bring the contents to the bottom. Please reconstitute protein in deionized sterile water to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/mL. We recommend to add 5-50% of glycerol (final concentration) and aliquot for long-term storage at -20°C/-80°C. Our default final concentration of glycerol is 50%. Customers could use it as reference.
Introduction
bS16 is a structural protein within the 30S small ribosomal subunit of Staphylococcus aureus, essential for ribosome assembly and translational fidelity. It stabilizes the 16S rRNA framework, ensuring accurate mRNA codon recognition and tRNA positioning during protein synthesis initiation. As a highly conserved bacterial ribosomal protein, bS16 supports cellular viability, and its dysfunction impairs growth under stress conditions (e.g., antibiotic exposure). While not a direct target of current antibiotics (e.g., aminoglycosides bind rRNA), its conservation and essential role make it a candidate for novel therapeutics targeting translation machinery in multidrug-resistant S. aureus strains.
