Animals were immunized with recombinant immunodeficiency virus 1 (HIV-1) gp120 (IIIB variant) purified from Baculovirus supernatant. Spleen cells were fused with P3X63Ag8.653 myeloma cells. The cell line was subcloned six times and adapted to growth in serum-free medium. The antibody reacts with both native and denatured HIV-1 gp120 within the conserved C-terminal amino acid sequence residues 495-516.
