General Description
Melatonin is a hormone synthesized by the pineal gland, whose secretion is regulated by light. In dark environments, the release of melatonin from the pineal gland increases, while in light, it decreases. Melatonin plays an important role in regulating the biological clock, sleep-wake rhythm, immune function, and antioxidant defense in mammals. Due to its regulatory effects, Melatonin has been widely used in the treatment of sleep disorders such as insomnia and jet lag. Additionally, Melatonin has potential medical applications in anti-aging, anti-cancer, and neuroprotection.
