General Description
PFN1 encodes profilin 1, an actin-binding protein that exchanges actin monomers between thymosin β4 and filament ends, thereby controlling cytoskeletal dynamics, motility, and cytokinesis. It is also recruited by numerous bacterial and viral pathogens to rearrange host actin during invasion. Profilin's role in immune-cell migration and as a target of pathogen effectors supports its relevance as a diagnostic marker and host-factor in infection research.
