This product (Catalog No. DMAB-CBAS078) is a mouse-derived monoclonal antibody raised against human MBP. It has been affinity purified by Protein A. Myelin Basic Protein (MBP) is a key structural component of the myelin sheath that insulates axons in the central nervous system. It plays a crucial role in the formation and maintenance of compact myelin, facilitating efficient nerve signal conduction. MBP exists in multiple isoforms arising from alternative splicing, with the 18.5 kDa isoform being the most abundant in adult human myelin. Disruption or degradation of MBP is associated with demyelination and neurodegeneration in diseases like multiple sclerosis (MS). Genetic variants in the MBP gene can influence the clinical course of MS, with certain variants predicting higher relapse rates and disability progression, potentially through mechanisms involving microRNA regulation. Additionally, MBP fragments released during myelin breakdown can trigger further myelin disassembly and serve as autoantigens driving the autoimmune response in MS.

DMAB-CBAS078 is supplied as a liquid formulation in Phosphate-buffered saline (PBS), carrier-free, with optional 0.09% sodium azide. For long-term storage, keep at −20 °C. For short-term use, store at 2–8 °C. Avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles to maintain antibody integrity and performance.
