General Description

Carazolol is a high affinity inverse agonist (also referred to as a beta blocker) of the β-adrenergic receptor. It reduces epinephrine-induced increases in mean arterial blood pressure and heart rate in conscious pigs. Therefore, it is often used in pigs to prevent stress and death during transport to the slaughterhouse. With the widespread use of sedatives and carazolol, the possibility of accumulation of their residues in animal-derived foods increases, thus, potentially leading to toxic effects.(Gregory, N.G., et al., 1982; Jiangeng, H., et al., 2011)
