General Description
TRIM28 encodes tripartite motif-containing protein 28 (KAP1/TIF1β), a co-repressor that recruits chromatin-modifying complexes to KRAB-zinc-finger transcription factors and governs heterochromatin, genomic stability, and intrinsic immunity to retroelements. It bridges epigenetic silencing with antiviral and tumor-suppressor programs. Given its role in restraining endogenous retroviruses and modulating interferon responses, TRIM28 is relevant to vaccine and antiviral research and as a biomarker of epigenetic dysregulation in cancer.
