General Description

Bacitracin produced by Bacillus licheniformis is a type of narrow-spectrum peptide acting on Gram-positive bacteria and it is a metalloantibiotic agent that is widely used as a medicine and feed additive. It interferes with bacterial cell-wall biosynthesis by binding undecaprenyl-pyrophosphate, a lipid carrier that serves as a critical intermediate in cell wall production. Bacitracin to various animals it is hardly absorbed from the gastro-intestinal tract, and its distribution to organs and tissues is negligible since approximately 98% of Bacitracin is usually excreted (1, 2).
