Alternariol Monomethyl Ether (AME) is a secondary metabolite produced by Alternaria species, structurally related to alternariol. It is a polyketide mycotoxin exhibiting weak estrogenic and genotoxic activity. AME occurs as a contaminant in fruits, grains, and processed foods. Due to its DNA-interacting properties and oxidative potential, AME is utilized in toxicological studies investigating mechanisms of genotoxicity, cell cycle disruption, and mycotoxin co-contamination in agricultural commodities.
