Albendazole Sulfoxide is the primary active metabolite of albendazole, formed through hepatic and intestinal oxidation. As a benzimidazole-class anthelmintic, Albendazole Sulfoxide exerts its pharmacological activity by binding to β-tubulin and inhibiting microtubule polymerization, leading to impaired glucose uptake and energy depletion in parasites. It displays broad-spectrum efficacy against nematodes and certain cestodes, and is the major circulating form responsible for the therapeutic effects of albendazole in vivo.
