Antigen Description

The CD38 (Mw = 45kDa) antigen is expressed during the early stages of T and B lymphocyte differentiation and is expressed by immature B and T lymphocytes, activated B and T cells, NK lymphocytes and germinal centre B cells and plasma cells. CD8: This antigen is present on human T suppressor/cytotoxic cell subtypes, that represent 20-36% of normal peripheral blood lymphocytes, and on NK cells subset (CD3-CD8+) and thymocytes. Patients with AIDS exhibit T cell lymphopenia, a loss of CD4+ lymphocytes and a relative increase in the CD8+ subtype and in the CD3+CD4-CD8- subtype.
