General Description
Histone cluster 1 H2B family member C (HIST1H2BC) encodes a canonical replication-dependent histone H2B protein that packages DNA into nucleosomes and thereby organizes chromatin structure. As part of the core histone octamer, it is fundamental to DNA compaction, gene regulation, and faithful genome replication. Like other core histones, it is broadly essential and serves as a substrate for post-translational modifications that mark active or repressed chromatin states.
