General Description
CALR encodes calreticulin, a major endoplasmic-reticulum chaperone and Ca2+-binding protein that supports protein folding, MHC class I antigen presentation, and calcium homeostasis. Somatic CALR mutations are drivers of myeloproliferative neoplasms and create neoepitopes recognized by T cells. Calreticulin is a well-established autoantigen in autoimmune disease and a target of interest for cancer vaccines and diagnostic/prognostic testing.
