General Description

Cephalexin is an antibiotic of the cephalosporin family, which is the second-most consumed group of antibiotics worldwide, and is normally used to treat respiratory and urinary infections. The discharge of contaminated water from pharmaceutical facilities, hospitals, homes, and agro-industrial facilities containing pharmaceuticals such as Cephalexin into the environment can have adverse impacts on human health, increase antibiotic resistance, and inhibit the growth of algae and beneficial microorganisms in the environment (1,2).
