Product Background

Gene summary
KRT20 (Keratin 20) is a Protein Coding gene. Diseases associated with KRT20 include merkel cell carcinoma and gastrointestinal carcinoma. GO annotations related to this gene include structural molecule activity and structural constituent of cytoskeleton. An important paralog of this gene is KRT12. The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the keratin family. The keratins are intermediate filament proteins responsible for the structural integrity of epithelial cells and are subdivided into cytokeratins and hair keratins. The type I cytokeratins consist of acidic proteins which are arranged in pairs of heterotypic keratin chains. This cytokeratin is a major cellular protein of mature enterocytes and goblet cells and is specifically expressed in the gastric and intestinal mucosa. The type I cytokeratin genes are clustered in a region of chromosome 17q12-q21.
Antigen Description
Keratin 20, often abbreviated CK20, is a protein that in humans is encoded by the KRT20 gene. Keratin 20 is a type I cytokeratin. It is a major cellular protein of mature enterocytes and goblet cells and is specifically found in the gastric and intestinal mucosa. Plays a significant role in maintaining keratin filament organization in intestinal epithelia. When phosphorylated, plays a role in the secretion of mucin in the small intestine (By similarity). 0The function about KRT20 antigen include protein binding; structural constituent of cytoskeleton.
