Antigen Description
Nitrofurantoin is an imidazolidine-2,4-dione that is hydantoin substituted at position 1 by a [(5-nitro-2-furyl)methylene]amino group, also a derivate from semicarbazide. It is an antibiotic that damages bacterial DNA and used to treat bladder infections, such as uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTIs), but is not as effective for kidney infectins. Nitrofurantoin has been shown to have good activity against to E. coli, Staphylococcus saprophyticus, Coagulase negative staphylococci etc., and poor activity against to Enterobacter, Klebsiella, Proteus and Pseudomonas.
