General Description

Xylazine is a drug used for sedation, anesthesia, muscle relaxation, and analgesia in animals such as horses, cattle, and other non-human mammals. It is an analog of clonidine and an agonist at the α2 class of adrenergic receptor. Xylazine can be administered in a variety of ways, such as intravenously, intramuscularly, subcutaneously, and orally. However, the use of xylazine may result in the presence of sedative residues in dairy products. People who consume foods containing xylazine residues over a long period of time may develop vomiting, nausea, weakness, and numbness of the limbs, and excessive consumption may also cause symptoms such as coma, and reduced bradycardia.
