Sulfaphenazole is a sulfonamide antibiotic that inhibits bacterial dihydropteroate synthase, blocking folate synthesis and bacterial growth. Importantly, it is a selective inhibitor of human CYP2C9, making it a standard probe compound in drug–drug interaction research and hepatic metabolism studies. Sulfaphenazole is widely used to characterize enzyme kinetics, isoform selectivity, and metabolic clearance pathways in vitro.
