Introduction
CD40 is an antigen on the surface of immune cells known as T lymphocytes, B lymphocytes, and dendritic cells. It binds to a protein called CD40 ligand (CD40L), which is found on natural killer (NK) cells. Interestingly, CD40 is also found on activated T cells, and when it binds to CD40L on NK cells, it can trigger their tampering of the immune response, known as the NK's suppressive control. This CD40-CD40L interaction is crucial for NK surveillance of CD40-expressing T cells.
