Introduction

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is a DNA virus that infects the liver and can cause acute or chronic liver diseases, including cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (liver cancer). It has a complex genetic structure and exhibits significant genetic diversity, which is classified into genotypes and subtypes. HBV is classified into 10 genotypes (A to J), with each genotype having distinct genetic and epidemiological characteristics. The genotypes are typically divided based on a divergence of more than 8% in the nucleotide sequence of the precore/core region of the virus genome. Genotype A is one of the ten known genotypes of Hepatitis B virus, and genotype A2 is a specific subgenotype (or branch) within genotype A. HBV subtypes are classified based on variations in the hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) amino acid sequence; adw2 subtype refers to a specific pattern of the HBsAg (Hepatitis B surface antigen), particularly in the preS1 region. Protein P (HBV polymerase) is a critical enzyme involved in the replication of the virus.
