Introduction
Pyocyanine is a blue-green phenazine pigment secreted by the bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa. It is a redox-active compound that participates in generating reactive oxygen species, contributing to bacterial pathogenicity and biofilm persistence. Chemically, pyocyanine acts as an electron shuttle, modulating redox balance within host cells. It has been extensively studied as a virulence factor and as a prototype for redox-active secondary metabolites in bacterial physiology and microbial ecology.
