General Description
Solute carrier family 39 member 1 (SLC39A1), also known as ZIP1, is a plasma membrane and intracellular zinc transporter that imports zinc into the cytosol, maintaining cellular zinc homeostasis. Zinc is an essential cofactor for numerous enzymes and signaling molecules, and SLC39A1 therefore influences immune cell function, growth, and antioxidant defense. Dysregulation of this transporter is implicated in cancer, inflammatory disorders, and defects in zinc-dependent processes.
