General Description
Alpha-1-acid glycoprotein 1 (AGP1), also known as orosomucoid 1, is an abundant acute-phase plasma glycoprotein synthesized primarily in the liver. It binds and transports small lipophilic molecules and endogenous ligands, and modulates immune and inflammatory responses through effects on platelet aggregation, neutrophil function, and cytokine production. Its plasma concentration rises sharply during infection, trauma, and inflammatory disease, making it a useful clinical marker of acute-phase reactivity.
