Animals were immunized with the MCF7 human mammary cancer cell line. Spleen cells were fused with P3X63Ag8.653 myeloma cells. The antibody is specific for type 8 cytokeratin (52000 dalton). It cross-reacts somewhat with types 18 and 19 cytokeratins (46000 dalton and 40000 dalton, respectively). The antibody can be used to detect cytokeratin released by neoplastic cells into serum.
