General Description
As the eutrophication of water bodies in China gradually intensifies, the occurrence of cyanobacterial blooms and red tides has gradually increased. 80% of cyanobacterial blooms can detect secondary metabolites-microcystins (MCs), which have become one of the major environmental issues of global concern for the harm to the aquatic environment and human health. Microcystins are heptapeptide monocyclic hepatotoxins. There are ring structures and intervening double bonds in the structure, so they have considerable stability. They can strongly inhibit the activity of protein phosphatases. When cells rupture or age, the toxins are released into the water. At the same time, it is also a strong liver tumor promoter. MC is a monocyclic heptapeptide substance with obvious hepatotoxicity. Due to the different composition of the two variable amino acids in the polypeptide, there are multiple isomers. Among them, the most common and most abundant are MC-LR, MC-RR, and MC-YR. Studies have shown that MC-LR has the strongest acute toxicity, followed by MC-YR, and MC-RR is the weakest.
