Imidocarb is a diamidine-class antiparasitic agent primarily used in veterinary medicine for the treatment and prevention of babesiosis and ehrlichiosis in livestock and companion animals. It acts by binding to parasitic DNA and interfering with replication and polyamine synthesis, ultimately disrupting nucleic acid metabolism in protozoan pathogens. Imidocarb exhibits strong activity against Babesia, Anaplasma, and Ehrlichia species and is valued for its long tissue persistence and prophylactic properties. In research, it is frequently used to study antiparasitic mechanisms, drug–parasite interactions, and resistance development.
