Abstract

Stable and reliable immune system is a base of health, yet to provide it, the immune system needs to be regulated on different levels, mainly by substances, such as proteins, with modulating properties. In the last decade, it was shown, that conservative proteins coronins and butyrophilins are characterized by specific functions on macroorganism and may serve as important elements in regulating the immune system. These proteins are expressed on macrophages, neutrophils, lymphocytes, DC cells and mast cells, and its role is to influence on those cells, however their role has also been proved in bacterial and viral infections as well as in genetically mediated diseases.
