General Description
Anti-Mi-2 Antibody is an autoantibody that targets the Mi-2 protein, a 220 kDa nuclear helicase involved in chromatin remodeling and transcriptional regulation. This protein is highly expressed in proliferating cells and is a key component of the nucleosome remodeling and deacetylation (NuRD) complex.
Anti-Mi-2 antibody is highly specific for dermatomyositis (DM), a type of inflammatory myopathy. It is found in approximately 20–30% of patients with DM.
The presence of anti-Mi-2 antibody is associated with a distinct clinical phenotype of DM, characterized by acute onset, severe muscle weakness, proximal muscle involvement, and typical skin manifestations such as heliotrope rash and Gottron's papules.
