General Description
Anti-Melanocyte Melan-A Antibody is a monoclonal antibody that targets the Melan-A (MART-1) protein. Melan-A is a 20–22 kDa transmembrane protein predominantly expressed in melanocytes (pigment-producing cells) and melanoma cells. It is a highly specific marker for the melanocytic lineage, making it a valuable tool in diagnostic pathology.
Anti-Melan-A antibody is highly specific for melanocytic cells, making it a reliable marker for diagnosing both primary and metastatic melanomas. It stains melanoma cells in over 80% of cases, providing a strong diagnostic signal.
This antibody is positive in benign melanocytic lesions (such as nevi) and helps differentiate them from non-melanocytic tumors. It is particularly useful in distinguishing melanoma from other spindle cell tumors that may lose expression of other markers like gp100 (HMB-45).
