The Fowl Adenovirus serotype 4 (FAdV-4) Hexon protein is the major capsid protein forming the bulk of the icosahedral viral capsid and plays a critical role in virus structure and antigenicity. Hexon is composed of conserved and variable regions, with the hypervariable loops on its surface being the primary targets for neutralizing antibodies. Due to its abundance and immunogenicity, the Hexon protein is widely used in molecular typing, serological diagnosis, and vaccine development against FAdV-4 infections, particularly those causing hydropericardium-hepatitis syndrome (HHS) in poultry.
