Bifenox is a selective diphenyl ether herbicide that blocks chlorophyll biosynthesis by inhibiting protoporphyrinogen oxidase. It causes rapid membrane damage through accumulation of photodynamic intermediates. Its structural similarity to related herbicides makes it useful for studies of plant metabolism, herbicide detoxification, and resistance pathways.
