Introduction
Amlodipine besylate is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that inhibits L-type calcium influx in vascular smooth muscle cells. It reduces peripheral vascular resistance and maintains stable long-term antihypertensive effects. Amlodipine's slow onset and extended plasma half-life make it a standard comparator in cardiovascular research. It is also used in studies examining endothelial function and oxidative stress regulation in hypertension models.
