Sulphadiazine is a competitive inhibitors of p-aminobenzoic acid in the folic acid metabolism cycle.
Antigen Description
Sulfadiazine, a sulfa drug, eliminates bacteria that cause infections, especially urinary tract infections. Antibiotics will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections. Sulfadiazine works by preventing the bacteria from producing folate. Without folate, the bacteria cannot produce DNA and so are unable to increase in numbers. Sulfadiazine therefore stops the spread of infection. The remaining bacteria are killed by the immune system or eventually die.
