The test can be used to detect PeSV in infected pea, bean and other infected host plant tissues.
Storage
All reagent components should be stored at the recommended temperature to assure their full shelf life. The kit should be used within six months of purchase.
Sensitivity
Sensitivity of the ELISA is moderate high. The virus can be consistently detected in infected plant tissues diluted at 1:810.
General Description
Pea streak virus (PeSV) is a plant pathogenic virus. An RNA-containing virus with straight to slightly curved filamentous particles c. 620 x 12 nm. Easily sap-transmitted to many species in the Papilionaceae and to some in other families, often causing latent infection. Certain isolates are readily aphid-transmitted, others poorly or not at all. Causes severe necrotic streaking of pea stems and petioles often with veinal necrosis; other symptoms are flaccidity of leaves, malformation and chlorosis of apical foliage, wilting of plant tips and plant death . Pods may be spotted, pitted and distorted; those forming when infection takes place become purple and do not develop seeds. In pea no immunity seems to exist. In Minnesota and Wisconsin and in Canada clovers (especially red clover) are commonly infected, often without symptoms. In red clover no immunity was found. Natural infection of white sweet clover (Steinkleevirus) was reported only once.
