General Notes
This product (Catalog No. CABT-BL5304) is a rabbit-derived polyclonal antibody raised against human OR1J1. This antibody exhibits cross-reactivity with OR1J1 from mouse and rat. It has been affinity purified by Protein A. OR1J1 is a protein-coding gene in humans that encodes an olfactory receptor protein, a member of the G protein-coupled receptor 1 family responsible for detecting odorant molecules in the nose to initiate the neuronal response underlying smell perception. Located on the long arm of chromosome 9 at cytogenetic band 9q33.2 (genomic coordinates: 122,476,958-122,477,926 on the minus strand in GRCh38), it consists of a single coding exon and produces a 322-amino-acid protein with a molecular mass of 35,493 Da and seven transmembrane domains typical of this receptor class. The olfactory receptor gene family, to which OR1J1 belongs, is the largest in the human genome, encompassing around 400 functional genes and numerous pseudogenes distributed across multiple chromosomes. OR1J1 enables G protein-coupled receptor activity and olfactory receptor activity, participating in pathways such as olfactory signaling, G protein-coupled receptor signaling, and sensory perception of smell. While primarily expressed in the olfactory epithelium, transcriptomic data indicate overexpression in the testis (up to 8.8-fold relative to other tissues), suggesting potential non-olfactory roles, though specific ligands for OR1J1 remain unidentified, classifying it among the many orphan olfactory receptors. Aliases for the gene include hg32 and OR9-18, and it shares sequence similarity with other members of subfamily J, implying potential recognition of structurally related odorants. No strong disease associations are established, though genome-wide association studies have tentatively linked variants to traits like abdominal aortic aneurysm and glomerular filtration rate; clinical significance of known variants, such as missense mutations (e.g., p.Ile19Met), is uncertain.
CABT-BL5304 is suitable for use in WB 1 (500-1:2000), IHC 1 (50-1:200) applications.
