Centromere proteinA, also known as CENPA, is a protein which in humans is encoded by the CENPAgene. Centromeres are the differentiated chromosomal domains that specify themitotic behavior of chromosomes. The CENPA gene encodes a centromere proteinwhich contains a histone H3 related histone fold domain that is required fortargeting to the centromere.
