Escherichia coli; commonly abbreviated E. coli) is a gram-negative, facultatively anaerobic, rod-shaped bacterium of the genus Escherichia that is commonly found in the lower intestine of warm-blooded organisms (endotherms). Most E. coli strains are harml
Skp, also known as Seventeen Kilodalton Protein, is a trimeric periplasmic chaperone that assists outer membrane proteins in their folding and insertion into membranes. Skp is required for the efficient release of ompA from the inner membrane, the maintenance of its solubility in the periplasm, and, in association with lipopolysaccharide (LPS), for the efficient folding and insertion of ompA into the outer membrane.
