General Notes
This product (Catalog No. CABT-BL1029) is a rabbit-derived polyclonal antibody raised against human CEACAM19. This antibody exhibits cross-reactivity with CEACAM19 from mouse. It has been affinity purified by Protein A. CEACAM19 is a protein-coding gene located on human chromosome 19q13.31 that encodes carcinoembryonic antigen-related cell adhesion molecule 19 (CEACAM19), a member of the CEA subfamily of immunoglobulin-like cell adhesion proteins predicted to function in homophilic and heterophilic cell-cell interactions. The encoded protein is an integral membrane component with a structure featuring an N-terminal signal peptide, a single immunoglobulin variable-like domain, and a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchor for membrane attachment, though its exact physiological roles remain largely uncharacterized beyond general predictions of involvement in cellular adhesion and signaling. Expression of CEACAM19 is ubiquitous across human tissues, with notably higher levels detected in the prostate, uterus, fetal brain, mammary gland, adrenal gland, skeletal muscle, small intestine, and kidney, as well as low tissue specificity in RNA profiling from diverse organs including the brain, gastrointestinal tract, and reproductive system. Subcellular localization studies indicate presence in nucleoli, mitochondria, and nucleoplasm, alongside predicted membrane association, suggesting potential roles in intracellular processes or organelle interactions in addition to surface adhesion. The gene is conserved across mammals, including chimpanzees, dogs, cows, mice, and rats, underscoring its evolutionary significance in vertebrate biology. In pathology, CEACAM19 has emerged as a marker of interest in oncology, with overexpression linked to aggressive cancers such as penile squamous cell carcinoma, where it correlates with advanced disease stage and poor survival, potentially serving as a prognostic biomarker. Similarly, elevated CEACAM19 expression in breast cancer, particularly in estrogen receptor/progesterone receptor-negative subtypes, associates with tumor progression and may indicate therapeutic vulnerability. It is also prognostic in kidney renal papillary cell carcinoma and shows variable expression across other malignancies, including colorectal, lung, and prostate cancers, though its mechanistic contributions to tumorigenesis—such as modulation of immune evasion or metastasis—require further elucidation through targeted studies. No definitive associations with non-cancerous diseases have been established, highlighting CEACAM19's primary relevance in cancer research to date.
