This protein is the receptor for the cytotoxic ligand TNFSF10/TRAIL. It lacks a cytoplasmic death domain and hence is not capable of inducing apoptosis nor can it induce the NF-kappa-B pathway. It protects cells against TRAIL mediated apoptosis possibly through ligand competition.
