General Notes
This product (Catalog No. DPABH-01236) is a rabbit-derived polyclonal antibody raised against human OR5M11. This antibody exhibits cross-reactivity with OR5M11 from rat. It has been affinity purified by Protein A. OR5M11 is a protein-coding gene in humans that encodes olfactory receptor 5M11 (OR5M11), a member of the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) superfamily responsible for detecting odorant molecules in the nasal cavity to initiate the perception of smell. This receptor features a characteristic seven-transmembrane domain structure typical of olfactory receptors, which belong to the largest gene family in the human genome. Located on the reverse strand of chromosome 11 at position 11q12.1 (GRCh38 coordinates: 56,542,340–56,543,257), OR5M11 consists of a single exon and produces one validated transcript (NM_001005245.1), which translates to a 305-amino-acid protein (NP_001005245.1). The gene's official symbol is approved by the HUGO Gene Nomenclature Committee (HGNC:15291), with synonyms including OR11-199. Functionally, OR5M11 interacts with odorants to trigger G protein-mediated signal transduction, contributing to the neuronal response that enables olfactory sensation; it contains a conserved domain (cd15412) spanning amino acids 26–302, specific to the olfactory receptor subfamily 5M-like proteins. Expression of OR5M11 is primarily associated with olfactory epithelium, consistent with its role in smell detection, though detailed tissue-specific data align with the broader olfactory receptor family. The gene has 83 orthologs across species and 96 paralogs within the human genome, highlighting its evolutionary conservation in olfaction. No direct associations with human diseases have been firmly established for OR5M11, though olfactory receptors as a class are studied for potential roles in sensory disorders.
DPABH-01236 is suitable for use in WB 1 (500-1:1000), IF/ICC 1 (100-1:500) applications.
