General Notes
This product (Catalog No. DPABH-24168) is a rabbit-derived polyclonal antibody raised against human OR51I2. It has been affinity purified by Protein A. OR51I2 is a protein-coding gene in humans that encodes the olfactory receptor 51I2 (also known as O51I2), a member of the G protein-coupled receptor 1 family responsible for detecting odorant molecules in the nasal epithelium to trigger neuronal responses and enable the perception of smell. This receptor consists of 312 amino acids, features seven transmembrane domains, and has a molecular mass of approximately 35 kDa, with glycosylation at asparagine residue 5 contributing to its structure. Expressed primarily in the nervous system, particularly in olfactory sensory neurons, OR51I2 participates in key biological processes such as G protein-coupled receptor signaling, signal transduction, and sensory perception of chemical stimuli. The OR51I2 gene is located on the forward strand of chromosome 11 at position 11p15.4 (GRCh38/hg38 coordinates: 5,449,323–5,456,518), spanning about 7.2 kb and consisting of a single coding exon as part of a cluster of olfactory receptor genes near the beta-globin locus. It exhibits high evolutionary conservation, with orthologs in other mammals such as chimpanzees (99% similarity), dogs (90%), and mice (88%, known as Olfr641 or Or51i2), reflecting its ancient origin in the mammalian lineage. The gene demonstrates intolerance to variation, with a Residual Variation Intolerance Score of 93.1 and a Gene Damage Index of 14.06, indicating that disruptive mutations may have significant functional consequences. Associations with diseases have been noted through text mining and genome-wide association studies (GWAS), including links to familial medullary thyroid carcinoma, as well as phenotypes related to aging, erythrocyte count, glomerular filtration rate, serum creatinine levels, and ischemic stroke risk. However, specific causal mechanisms remain unclear, and variants such as rs181429737 and rs144341122 are of uncertain clinical significance. OR51I2 has over 400 paralogs within the olfactory receptor superfamily, underscoring its role in the expansive genomic repertoire dedicated to olfaction in humans.
DPABH-24168 is suitable for use in WB 1 (500-1:1000), IF/ICC 1 (100-1:500) applications.
