General Notes
This product (Catalog No. DPABH-09255) is a rabbit-derived polyclonal antibody raised against human OR2V2. It has been affinity purified by Protein A. OR2V2 is a protein-coding gene in humans that encodes the olfactory receptor 2V2, a member of the large family of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) responsible for detecting odorant molecules in the nasal epithelium to initiate neuronal responses leading to smell perception. This receptor shares a characteristic seven-transmembrane domain structure typical of olfactory receptors, many of which are encoded by single-exon genes and form the largest gene family in the human genome. The OR2V2 gene is located on chromosome 5q35.3, spanning genomic coordinates from 181147586 to 181159285 (GRCh38.p14 assembly), and consists of two exons. It produces a validated mRNA transcript (NM_206880.2) that translates into a 315-amino-acid protein (NP_996763.1) containing conserved domains for seven-transmembrane helices and olfactory receptor specificity. Expression of OR2V2 is primarily in the olfactory epithelium of the nose, where it participates in the G protein-mediated transduction of odorant signals, contributing to the diverse repertoire of human olfactory detection. As part of the olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily V, OR2V2 exemplifies the evolutionary expansion of these receptors, with orthologs identified in other mammals, underscoring its role in conserved sensory mechanisms. While specific ligands for OR2V2 remain under investigation, its involvement in broader olfactory signaling pathways highlights its importance in chemosensory function.
