HIV-1 p17 core protein is a matrix protein that forms the outer shell of the viral core, contributing to the structural organization, membrane binding, and intracellular trafficking of the virus during infection. This mouse monoclonal antibody reacts with HIV-1 p17 protein and the epitope has been mapped to aa 17-22. It can be used to detect HIV-1 core protein in fresh or cultured HIV-1 infected cells through immunostaining and may also be be useful for the affinity isolation of HIV-1 core protein and immunoprecipitates p55 gag precursor.
