FDX1 (Ferredoxin 1) is a Protein Coding gene. Diseases associated with FDX1 include cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis and vitamin d-dependent rickets, type i. Among its related pathways are Metabolism and Infectious disease. GO annotations related to this gene include iron ion binding and iron-sulfur cluster binding. An important paralog of this gene is ENSG00000167807. This gene encodes a small iron-sulfur protein that transfers electrons from NADPH through ferredoxin reductase to mitochondrial cytochrome P450, involved in steroid, vitamin D, and bile acid metabolism. Pseudogenes of this functional gene are found on chromosomes 20 and 21.
Participates in the synthesis of thyroid hormones. Transfers electrons from adrenodoxin reductase to the cholesterol side chain cleavage cytochrome P450. Essential for the synthesis of various steroid hormones, participates in the reduction of mitochondrial cytochrome P450 for steroidogenesis. Transfers electrons from adrenodoxin reductase to CYP11A1, a cytochrome P450 that catalyzes cholesterol side-chain cleavage. Adrenal ferredoxin also known as adrenodoxin or adrenodoxin, mitochondrial or hepatoredoxin or ferredoxin-1 (FDX1) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the FDX1 gene. In addition to the expressed gene at this chromosomal locus (11q22), there are pseudogenes located on chromosomes 20 and 21. Ferredoxin-1 is a small iron-sulfur protein that transfers electrons from NADPH through ferredoxin reductase to a terminal cytochrome P450. This particular oxidation/reduction system is found in steroidogenic tissues, and is involved with the synthesis of bile acid and vitamin D. Ferredoxin-1 has been identified in a number of different tissues but all forms have been shown to be identical and are not tissue specific. The function about FDX1 antigen include 2 iron, 2 sulfur cluster binding; NADPH-adrenodoxin reductase activity; cholesterol monooxygenase (side-chain-cleaving) activity; electron carrier activity; enzyme binding; iron ion binding; metal ion binding.
