EXOC2 is a component of the exocyst complex, which is an octameric protein complex essential for exocytosis. The exocyst complex is involved in the docking of secretory vesicles with fusion sites on the plasma membrane. In adipocytes it plays a crucial role in targeting SLC2A4 containing vesicles to the plasma membrane in response to insulin.
