The sole ligand for CMKLR1 is chemerin, a chemoattractant that exists at the mRNA level in a wide range of tissues, and as an inactive proform in serum and plasma. Studies suggest that chemerin, in plasma, is converted into a potent pDC attractant following blood coagulation and may be a process by which pDC's are recruited to sites of bleeding and tissue damage.
