Product Background

Gene summary
CHST12 (Carbohydrate (Chondroitin 4) Sulfotransferase 12) is a Protein Coding gene. Among its related pathways are Metabolism and Glycosaminoglycan metabolism. GO annotations related to this gene include sulfotransferase activity and chondroitin 4-sulfotransferase activity. An important paralog of this gene is CHST9. The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the sulfotransferase 2 family. It is localized to the golgi membrane, and catalyzes the transfer of sulfate to position 4 of the N-acetylgalactosamine (GalNAc) residue of chondroitin and desulfated dermatan sulfate. Chondroitin sulfate constitutes the predominant proteoglycan present in cartilage, and is distributed on the surfaces of many cells and extracellular matrices. Alternatively spliced transcript variants differing only in their 5' UTRs have been found for this gene.
Antigen Description
Chondroitin 4-sulfotransferases, such as CHST12, add sulfate to position 4 of N-acetylgalactosamine residues in chondroitin (Hiraoka et al. , 2000 [PubMed 10781601]). Catalyzes the transfer of sulfate to position 4 of the N-acetylgalactosamine (GalNAc) residue of chondroitin and desulfated dermatan sulfate. Chondroitin sulfate constitutes the predominant proteoglycan present in cartilage and is distributed on the surfaces of many cells and extracellular matrices. Activity toward partially desulfated dermatan sulfate is however lower. Does not form 4, 6-di-O-sulfated GalNAc when chondroitin sulfate C is used as an acceptor. Carbohydrate sulfotransferase 12 is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the CHST12 gene. 0The function about CHST12 antigen include 3-phosphoadenosine 5-phosphosulfate binding; chondroitin 4-sulfotransferase activity; sulfotransferase activity; transferase activity.
