BCL2L12 (BCL2 Like 12) is a Protein Coding gene. GO annotations related to this gene include p53 binding. This gene encodes a member of a family of proteins containing a Bcl-2 homology domain 2 (BH2). The encoded protein is an anti-apoptotic factor that acts as an inhibitor of caspases 3 and 7 in the cytoplasm. In the nucleus, it binds to the p53 tumor suppressor protein, preventing its association with target genes. Overexpression of this gene has been detected in a number of different cancers. There is a pseudogene for this gene on chromosome 3. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the BCL-2 protein family. BCL-2 family members form hetero- or homodimers and act as anti- or pro-apoptotic regulators that are involved in a wide variety of cellular activities. This protein contains a Bcl-2 homology domain 2 (BH2). The function of this gene has not yet been determined. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants of this gene encoding distinct isoforms have been reported. Protein Symbol:Q9HB09-B2L12_HUMANRecommended name:Bcl-2-like protein 12Protein Accession:Q9HB09Secondary Accessions:Q3SY11Q3SY13Q96I96Q9HB08Bcl-2-like protein 12 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the BCL2L12 gene.
