Introduction
OmpA of Salmonella enterica serovar Abortusequi is a major outer membrane protein belonging to the conserved OmpA family widely found in Gram-negative bacteria. It forms β-barrel structures that contribute to maintaining outer membrane integrity, permeability, and interaction with host tissues. In pathogenic S. Abortusequi, OmpA is surface-exposed and immunogenic, enabling adhesion to and invasion of host cells and helping the organism resist complement-mediated killing. Because of its abundance and conservation, recombinant OmpA has been explored as an antigen for diagnostic assays and as a potential component of subunit vaccines aimed at preventing S. Abortusequi infection in equids.
