Introduction
DNA gyrase subunit B (GyrB) is a critical component of Staphylococcus aureus DNA gyrase, an essential type IIA topoisomerase that regulates DNA topology by introducing negative supercoils, resolving DNA tangles, and enabling DNA replication and transcription. This ATP-dependent enzyme comprises two subunits: GyrA (breaks/rejoins DNA) and GyrB (hydrolyzes ATP to energize supercoiling). GyrB is a prime target for novel antibiotics due to its role in bacterial viability and lower resistance prevalence compared to fluoroquinolone targets (e.g., GyrA).
